Our take: With a bit less cushion than some other Altra models, the Escalante offers great road feel for the minimalist runner. A larger expanse of rubber on the outsole suggests greater durability than similar shoes in its class. We think this makes a great gym shoe.
Note: Jumping into zero-drop shoes will work your calves hard until you become accustomed to them and adapt to a midfoot or forefoot strike.
